It's that time of year again! Summer is winding down (say it ain't so!) and football season… I mean, Fall… is right around the corner. It's the time of year to put all those Medicare certification hours to use! That's right, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't started thinking about it yet, we are fast approaching the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) for Medicare beneficiaries.
That said, URL's 2020 AEP Medicare Connections Conference at the Hershey Lodge on September 4th is a great opportunity for producers to learn and network in preparation for the upcoming Medicare annual enrollment season.
If you are planning to attend, I've put together a list of things to consider prior to the conference date.
5 ways to get the most out of the Medicare Connections Conference
Know the schedule
Set your objectives and priorities
Come prepared with questions
A session has just ended, and you have 10 unanswered questions and not enough time for answers. Sound familiar? It happens to all of us. Mitigate this problem by coming prepared with questions. Each of our carrier connections has time built-in for Q&A. Being prepared will help you maximize your opportunity to get answers.
Are there certain carrier products you want to better understand? Do you want to finally get an answer to that tricky enrollment scenario? Preparing your questions in advance could help you get the resolutions, and gain the knowledge you've been seeking.
Get ready to network!
This may seem like a no-brainer, but your networking efforts will have a greater impact on those with whom you engage if you have something to leave behind. This could be a business card, or any other materials that identify you and your business. So make sure to bring plenty of business cards, pens or leaflets with your contact information and/or details about what you do. This will help your peers retain your information with something tangible, and allow for familiarity when you send that follow-up message.
Post-conference activities
Once the conference has concluded, you should consider taking a few actions:
- Document any new knowledge you've gained. Whether you want to add notes in your client management system (CMS), or you keep reference material on your office computer, make any necessary updates so you don't lose the new information you just learned.
- Share your knowledge! Do you have co-workers that couldn't make it to the conference? They could benefit from the knowledge you gained as well. Knowledge sharing will strengthen your team.
- Did you make any new contacts at the conference (we certainly hope so)? Make sure to follow-up. Use the first couple of days after the conference to send any follow-up messages, or connect on LinkedIn, or other social media platforms. By following-up early you will still be fresh in the minds of your connections. It's also helpful if you include something discussed at the conference to help them remember you.
